If you’re planning to marry, about to marry or newly married, before you do anything that could harm your marriage, here’s a peek at marriage life so that you’ll know what to do, what not to do, what to expect and avoid to ensure that your marriage would indeed last long and that both of you will also live happily ever after just how fairytale couples tend to do.
Don’t Blow Things Out of Proportion – This often happen with couples who do not have any experience of living with each other before their marriage – these couples usually need to go through an adjustment period of two to three months before things settle back to normal.
If you and your partner are unused to living with someone else, it’s best to make sure that you don’t blow things out of proportion. It’s inevitable that your personalities or wants clash and if this happens, make sure that a petty disagreement has no chances of escalating into a full-blown-fight.
If all the two of you have to disagree about is how and where to push the toothpaste tube then make sure that you see the silliness of it so that you could laugh it off. Laughter is the best medicine, isn’t it? And so it should be, especially during the adjustment period for a marriage. If you’re able to laugh off arguments then you and your partner have a very good chance of making your marriage last.
Don’t Expect Miracles – This is often a mistake committed by the women. Because women are more emotional and sentimental, they often assume that marriages can do miracles. Some women believe that marriages would suddenly turn their originally shopping-allergic-boyfriends into mall-loving-husbands.
Great dream but unfortunately, that’s one dream that has little chances of becoming real. Marriage can strengthen and intensify qualities, not create new ones. Marriage, for example, can make responsible people more aware of their responsibilities. But marriage can’t make a carefree man become suddenly conscious of his responsibilities. But since we’re assuming you love the person you married, flaws and all, then it shouldn’t be hard for you to adjust your expectations.
Don’t Expect To Do Things Together All The Time – Again, it’s mostly women who are guilty of this. Most women believe that marriage gives them the license to demand their husbands to spend each and every second of the day with them. If this is what you expect of marriage, you don’t need a husband – rather, you need a nanny.
